The Master’s Program in Data Science, jointly operated by the Program of Computer Science and Program of Statistics, has established an internal Certificate in Data Science, offered exclusively to students in the Master’s Program in Mathematical Finance (MSMF). A certificate would be earned by a student who has completed five courses (fifteen credits) from a menu of courses, with three of those courses taken in addition to the ten courses required for the M.S. degree.
Goals for the Certificate in Data Science
The analysis of large data sets has become an important task for mathematical finance professionals and financial statistics and risk management professional in industry. Employers of our students in summer internship or full-time positions increasingly request evidence of expertise in advanced techniques in the analysis of big data and machine learning, in addition to expertise in mathematical finance or financial statistics and risk management. In response to this evolution within the financial industry, we seek to provide MSMF students with a certificate that can be tailored to their specific needs and will enhance their career opportunities. The certificate program is designed to complement and enhance the existing MSMF degree and will only be open to students admitted to and enrolled in the degree program.
